Keep Cool and Carry On!

This summer is a scorcher. Staying cool indoors may seem simple—just run your AC. But a lot of people wonder how they can save money on air conditioning in the summer without compromising comfort. These tips are great for lowering energy bills during the hottest months of the year.

And if you ever find yourself in need of AC repair in Reno, give us a call, and follow these suggestions to stay safely cool until help arrives!

Stay Hydrated

The most important thing to do when temperatures soar is to ensure your body gets all the H20 it needs. Opt for pure water over sugary drinks, coffee, juice, or alcoholic beverages. As you sweat, your body loses the hydration it needs to regulate its temperature and stay healthy.

In an air-conditioned space, aim for at least one cup (8 ounces) of water every hour. If you work outside, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests drinking one cup of water every 15 to 20 minutes. For those doing more leisurely tasks, like lounging by the pool, 8 ounces every half-hour is a good rule to follow. However, since everyone’s hydration needs are different, be sure to consume enough water to feel completely hydrated.

Take a Trip to the Pool

When the temperature skyrockets, it’s the perfect time to head to the public pool. A nice dip in the pool allows you to raise your thermostat a few degrees while you’re out; you can soak up the sun while keeping cool, all while giving your AC a break.

To make sure everyone stays safe, be sure to:

  • Apply plenty of sunscreen regularly
  • Drink at least 2 cups of water per hour in the sun
  • Sit under an umbrella
  • Never leave children unattended in or around the pool
  • Avoid falling asleep in the sun, whether it’s on a lounge chair or pool float

Plan Outings in Air-conditioned Places

Take a trip to the movies, go to the museum, or enjoy a family dinner in a nice restaurant. There are plenty of fun activities inside that allow you to enjoy AC free of charge. If you work from home, consider taking your laptop to a local coffee shop for a few hours.

Block Out Sunlight With Shades and Drapes

Room-darkening curtains can do a lot more than prevent an early wake-up call; they can keep your entire home cooler during the dog days of summer. Draw the blinds, close the curtains, and limit sunlight from entering your home as much as possible in unused rooms.

Use Ceiling Fans to Improve Your Air Conditioning

Running ceiling fans can help create air currents that make your home feel cooler. This simple lifehack makes it easier to maintain your home’s temperature during the summer, all while paying less for AC.

If you find yourself in need of any AC repair, don’t hesitate to reach out. During summer, it’s more important than ever to have reliable air conditioning at home.
